PCElympics, Day 2
We won the Spirit Stick today!!!!! Can you tell we were excited about that? :)
Today's race... Water Relay! Kiddos had to run with an empty cup to the water-filled bucket, scoop a big scoop, and run back to empty it into our class's bucket until it was OVERFLOWING! We got the bronze in that event.
But the Spirit Stick was earned when our class performed Party Rock as our cheer! We showed off our muscles and then shook our heads and got CRAY-CRAY!! It was so much fun!

PCElympics... Let the Games Begin!
Two of my wonderful students proudly walked down the halls carrying our class' banner. We are the Bears... RRROOOOOAAAARRR!!!!
Today's event: Ice Cream Cone Relay (soccer ball balancing on the top of an inverted plastic cone). We ran hard and did a great job. Brought "home the bronze. Great running, class!
Our cheer for the day: We are the Bears... Roar! We are the Bears... Roar! We are the Bears... Roar!! (original, I know!)
PCElympics Opening Parade

Science Fair
We did a class project for our school's Science Fair. Our project was about sunscreen. We wanted to test if sunscreen really could protect us from the sun.
The SPF 70 spray kept the black paper safe (a black circle could be seen after the test). The SPF 30 left a grayish spot on the black paper. All the sunscreen seemed to protect the black paper from the sun.
The lesson we learned was that sunscreen really does work - it protects us from the sun!

CHS's "Wonderland" Performance
We had so much fun on our FREE field trip to watch "Wonderland" performed by our local high school drama team. They did a wonderful job... and so did my awesome class! They listened, interacted, and sat so nicely through the lengthy play. What a fun memory! I hope one day to see my students up on stage performing! Some of them have natural talent for drama and entertainment!! :)

ASPIRE!
That word can spark stress into our students in the upper grades as it is tied to our state's standardized tests. Our school, however, took the bull by the horns and promoted the upcoming tests with daily themes for the week leading up to the test. Mrs. Ray allowed K teachers to participate... awesome sauce! I'm all about dressing up for a good cause!!
Sand and Sun: Surf through the Test!
Nerds Unite: Ace the Test!

Searching for Sight Words
I love using our Let's Find Out magazines (Scholastic!!). As our sight word vocabulary grows, we have become more excited about finding our words in everything we read! Here, a sweet girl searches and circles our sight words. Then, she marks other special "rules" we are learning: long e made with double e's, sight words in bigger words, etc. Dissecting the reading first helps us be successful readers!
Gr8 Sk8 Rollers
Our high-achievers visited Gr8 Sk8 today for a rewarding field trip. Although some rollers took quite a while to gain their bearings, all kiddos seemed to have a blast! We ended our field trip to a local park for wheel-less play and a picnic.

3rd Quarter PBS Reward
For our school's students who maintained a 90% or higher in conduct for the third quarter, Barn Hill Preserve visited our school and introduced us to some awesome exotic animals: a baby kangaroo, a sugar glider, a baby tortoise, a parrot, and a bearded dragon. There was a drawing for free pictures with the animals. Students could also purchase their own close-up with an animal of choice.

Shamrock Sprint
Today, students participated in the Shamrock Sprint during their P.E. times. Kindergarteners had to race around the track twice and be at or under the specific time set by the coaches.
Mrs. Ray allowed teachers to participate so I got a little exercise in with the K kiddos. Even earned my own shamrock!
One of the pros to working at the same school my sons attend... photo ops! :)

Dr. Seuss Week (Read Across America)
This was a great week! We celebrated a great author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss.
Our door design was inspired by the book, Thidwick, the Big-Hearted Moose.
Each student illustrated when they are big-hearted, just like Thidwick!
We had some high school students visit our class and read to us. They also played a few Seuss-inspired games with us! Thanks for coming!!
On Friday, we could dress up like any book character. I chose to be Pete the Cat!
I was rocking in my school shoes. ;)

Our Class Picture
We were asked to take a class picture for the yearbook this year. Not everyone is looking, not every was in attendance. But we tried our very best! When the timeline is about to expire, you take what you can get.

100th Day of School Celebration
We made necklaces using yarn, fruity loop cereal, and cardstock tags to help us separate each group of ten. We also had on some cute 100th Day crowns.
After reading a cute story, The Wolf's Chicken Stew, students wrote a letter to Uncle Wolf requesting him to bring them 100 of something!
Enjoying our 100-piece class snack! 10 of each kind of snack item combined in our personal baggies equals a tasty 10x10 treat.
Who'd think I'd look so cute as a 100 year old woman? :)

Martin Luther King Jr. Unit Study
This week, we spent a lot of time focusing on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the many lessons he taught during his short lifetime. We concluded that our eyes see the colors on the outside, but our hearts and minds to "see" what's on the inside!
A great lesson involved using two different kinds of eggs - both were eggs, but with different shell colors. Students recorded what they saw on the outside and made a prediction about what the inside of each egg would look like.
We cracked them both open and look what we discovered -- both eggs were the same!!!!

As part of our efforts to award academic success and good behavior, our Kindergarteners were taken to Chuck E. Cheese for plenty of play and pizza! You can see how much fun we all had.
